Explicit Content Only on Wax
In 2005 I released a curse words only version of N.W.A.'s classic album Straight Outta Compton. Now 3 years later with the help of Inge Records it is available on vinyl. Side A is the original and Side B has been updated with the Explicit Content Only version of Eazy-E's Eazy Duz It.

Graffiti Taxonomy Prints
In 2004 I released a project called Graffiti Taxonomy and since then I have been receiving regular email requests to make prints and posters. I have recently revisited the project and am now releasing my first ever series of limited edition signed and numbered prints. The Lower East Side 'E' was created from tags photographed in March of 2008. It is the first in an ongoing series of graffiti character studies titled 'A,E,I,O,U'. The prints were made by master printers right here in Brooklyn and can be purchased at the new ni9e store.
(More photos up here).
The original project is archived here, and I have also made a poster version of the 'S' series, taken from photographs shot in the Lower East Side in 2004. The poster can be purchased here.

Apparently there is a giant metal Christmas tree in Hong Kong with a lot of throwies and cola logos on it. Youtube clips here and here. One of my favorite parts is that the star at the top of the tree instead of being the guiding star of Bethlehem is a Coka-Cola logo.

final projection run for 2005...

This is footage from a projection run I did a couple of weeks ago (along with a new application I was testing out). I'm sad to say this will be the last of the projections I will be doing in New York until later this winter. On the flip side, if anyone in Brussels has a really bright digital projector I will be your new best friend?! Huge thanks go out as always to HELL, JESUS SAVES, AVONE, and KATSU, hopefully we can pick up where we left off when I return. Thanks to Lady fi5e and GARB for help with this last run. And finally, big huge 2 story tall thanks go out Dave and the Parsons DT department for letting me borrow the digital projector (I'm surprised it is still in one piece).

P.S., that was GARB's handywork in the "Thanks Dave" video.

Graffiti Analysis Projection...
Anyone interested is invited to come check out Graffiti Analysis projections Thursday night around 10pm. The plan is to project at the corner of Smith St. and Pacific St. in Carroll Gardens, Brooklyn. This is near to the Bergen St. metro stop on the F line.
I have little control over parking and lighting, and there is always the chance of technical problems, so if you decide to come please be understanding and open minded. Even if there is a hitch the area is fun and has lots of bars.
I've never done an announced projection, so it will be fun to see how this goes.

Digital Projection Test...

Friday night I did some more digital projection tests. These videos don't do justice to how fun it was to see this stuff projected 6 stories high, but if you squint your eyes and use your imagination you can start to get an idea of what it looked like.
launch JESUS SAVES projection test
Big thanks to FONG and LEGAL OBSERVER (aka the Notorious I.N.G.) for putting in a lot of time and effort to take this footage. And, as always, thanks to HELL and JESUS SAVES.... hope you like it!
I am hoping to meet with a couple more writers and finally figure out how to project from a moving vehicle in the next 10 days..... stay tuned.
*religious disclaimer:
HELL and JESUS_SAVES are two of my favorite graffiti writers in NYC. Their inclusion in the graffiti analysis studies has little to do with what their tags spell, but more to do with where and how often their tags appear in the city. It is only a coincidence that their names seem to have a common religious theme.

JESUS SAVES....

I had the honor of meeting with one of the most prolific graffiti writers in all of New York City, JESUS SAVES. If you live here and have not seen his tag than you are not paying attention. It was a thrill to have him involved in my graffiti analysis studies, and to hear his outlook on graffiti and life. Huge thanks to JESUS SAVES for being so open and giving with his time and creativity.

This is a screen capture of JESUS SAVES's tag as visualized in the Graffiti Analysis application.

These are sketches he made during our conversation. (I thought it was fitting that the page was from the bibliography of my thesis document.)

HELL vs. FI5E

I had the pleasure of meeting with one of my favorite NYC writers HELL a few weeks ago. He is taking part in my graffiti analysis project and is the first writer I have captured into my application. The project is still very much a work in progress and I won't be posting this to my main site until it is further developed, but I thought I would give anyone checking this blog a sneak peak to what I've been up to. Click here to view an outdoor projection test of HELL's tag as run through my system. Below is a screen capture from the application.

I wanted to say a big thanks to HELL for going out on a limb and meeting with a stranger during a time which I know is very risky for graffiti writers.
I'm really excited to be meeting with some other amazing writers this week, so stay tuned for more.

I am a toy....

Two reasons why am I a total toy:
1.) Just when I am feeling so proud of how nice my silver tag looks glimmering in the winter sun someone totally pisses blue all over me.
2.) I can't even read what it says (siek?!).
I was actually happy to find this because I think it is a good example of what someone knowledgeable in the medium of writing looks like versus someone just learning. Thanks for the lesson whatever your name is.
